In the dictionary the definition of buoy is:

1 noun: a floating object on the top of the sea, buy which is used for directing ships and warning them of possible danger 2 verb: 1. Float; to prevent something or someone from sinking. 2. Make happier; to make someone feel happier or more confident about a situation. 3. Make successful; to support something and make it more successful.

Buoys are vitally important signposts for seafarers to find their way and safeguard them against unseen dangers below the wavy surface. The buoys stand their guard in calm as well as in the stormiest weather. The method taught through The Buoy represents a safe passage for everyone whether they travel on sea or land.

Buoys float on the sea and must do so in order to provide us with the security they are meant to do. We can take this to represent the ability to stay on top by using the conscious breathing technique taught by The Buoy. Everyone who is familiar with swimming and diving knows that it depends on the way we breathe whether we will float or not. The best way to stay afloat is to breathe down into our stomach area, for sale into relaxation.

Another more personal reason I have named my course material The Buoy is that as a young child I was nicknamed the Buoy and it has stuck with me ever since.

The logo for The Buoy also has a long history. When I was about 5 years old my parents sowed the image of a buoy with a flag, representing my nickname, and gave it to me as a present. The initials stand for my name Bauja (Buoy) Thoroddsen. I still have this towel.
